DETROIT – Jelani Ahmed Shakoor, 40, of Detroit, has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Detroit resident Alicia Ferguson, 35.
Officials said they were dispatched to an apartment complex on Monday (June 17) at 3:33 p.m. in the 22000 block of West Grand Boulevard for the shooting.

When they arrived, officers said Ferguson was found in the bedroom of the home, suffering a gunshot wound to the neck.
Paramedics arrived on the scene and pronounced Ferguson deceased.
Allegedly, a verbal altercation between Shakoor and Ferguson escalated, causing the 40-year-old man to produce a gun and fatally wounding his 35-year-old girlfriend.
Shakoor has been charged with second-degree murder, a felon in possession of a firearm, and two counts of felony firearm.
The 40-year-old was sent to jail on Thursday, June 20, 2024. He has a probable cause conference scheduled for June 27 at 8:30 a.m. and a preliminary examination scheduled for July 2 at 1:45 p.m.
