Man shot, killed inside Howell tattoo shop; shooter arrested at scene

Officials say the shooting was not connected to Balloonfest event

HOWELL, Mich. – Police are investigating a shooting that occurred at a tattoo shop in Howell.

The fatal shooting occurred on Friday (June 28) at 5:30 p.m. in the 100 block of West Grand River Avenue. Police said officers responded to reports of a man, later identified as 46-year-old Sean Thompson, making threats at Metro Studios Ink.

Thompson was not armed at the time, according to police. The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, fired one shot, which struck and killed Thompson. The suspect was placed under arrest and is being held at the Livingston County Jail. Their identity will not be released until they have been formally arraigned.

Howell officials emphasized that there was no threat to the public, that the shooting did not occur near the Balloonfest event, and that it was in no way connected to the event.

The shooting seemed to be isolated, and all subjects involved are currently cooperating with the investigation.
