Surveillance cameras capture thieves stealing luxury cars from Southfield dealership

Owner offers $5K reward for arrest in car theft

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Surveillance cameras captured thieves stealing luxury cars from a dealership in Southfield.

The incident occurred on Tuesday (July 2) around 1:30 a.m. at Dream Luxury Car Rental on 8 Mile and Telegraph roads.

Cameras showed the alleged thieves entering the building and taking off inside the cars.

Officials say the men walked up on foot, broke this glass, and went to the showroom, where they stole three high-end rentals.

The owner feels downright violated.

“They look way older than teens,” said owner Sam Zahr.

It’s not the first time thieves broke into Dream Luxury Car Rental in Southfield, but Zahr says it’s the first time they’ve been bold to this extent.

Four thieves stole a Dodge RAM TRX, a Mercedes-Benz, and a Chevy Corvette in only two minutes.

“Detroit is the Motor City,” Zahr said. “Everybody loves cars. I love cars personally, so that’s why I got into this business.”

The four experienced thieves also unsuccessfully tried to get away with a Maybach, but Zahr says the worst part was the damage done to a Rolls-Royce while the thieves were getting away with the Corvette.

“He hit my Rolls-Royce,” Zahr said. “We have a wedding tomorrow. We had to call the bride and say, ‘I’m sorry.’ It put the company in a tough situation.”

The police arrived only minutes later. The good news, at least, was that thanks to GPS and other high-end technology, all three cars were disabled and recovered quickly.

Even though Zahr still has all the vehicles, he’s now out of about $30,000.

“Damage, money, I mean, it was a big amount of money because we have to refund customers and we have to switch cars,” Zahr said. “We’re missing a key for another car.”

He even has a message for the men responsible.

“You didn’t get too far, that’s for sure,” Zahr said.

When the suspects split up, all three cars were found near multiple locations, including Grand River Avenue and Telegraph Road, the Lodge Freeway, Southfield, Westbrook Street, and 7 Mile Road.

If you need some motivation, Zahr offers a $5k reward for any information leading to an arrest.
