CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Macomb County man is accused of killing his neighbor’s dog when it got close to his property line.
Officials said on Aug. 15, 2024, a Clinton Township resident’s dog, “Buddy,” got close to the property line shared with Andrae Maurice Jones’ home.
Jones, 43, of Clinton Township, is accused of shooting and killing the dog.
“The consequences of the defendant’s actions extend beyond just legal repercussions,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said. “The family is now grieving the loss of a beloved family member. We will ensure the defendant faces the consequences of his alleged actions.”
He was arrested and charged with:
- Third-degree killing/torturing an animal -- a four-year felony.
- Felony firearm -- a two-year mandatory felony.
- Careless discharge of a firearm -- a one-year misdemeanor.
- Malicious destruction of property between $200 and $1,000 -- a one-year misdemeanor.
He was arraigned Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 41B District Court in Clinton Township. Bond was set at $20,000, cash/surety, or 10%.
If he’s released, Jones isn’t allowed to have contact with the dog’s owners or possess guns or ammunition.
A probable cause conference is scheduled for Sept. 16.
