DETROIT – A crash on Detroit’s east side killed two teenagers and critically injured a third early Monday, Sept. 16.
According to authorities, a Dodge Charger that was speeding northbound on Gratiot Avenue struck a southbound BMW that was turning off near Harper Avenue. Police said the driver of the BMW was not injured but was taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving.

The crash caused the Dodge to become airborne and crash into a storefront. Police said the vehicle was so heavily damaged that they were unable to tell if anyone was wearing a seatbelt at the time.
Police believe speed and alcohol were both factors in the crash.
