Funeral services begin for officer who died after crash on I-75

Crash happened on Sept. 13

GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich. – Funeral services begin Thursday for the Michigan State Police motor carrier officer who died after a crash on I-75.

Officer Daniel Kerstetter had just pulled over a semi-truck on the shoulder of I-75 near Dix on Sept. 13, and he was in his patrol vehicle when a Ford Explorer smashed into it from behind.

The driver of the Ford Explorer was also killed. Police have not determined what caused that driver to lose control.

There will be a public visitation from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 19 at Verheyden Funeral Home on Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Park, followed by a funeral on Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church on Lake Shore Road in Grosse Pointe Farms.
