Man pretends to be FedEx worker to steal iPhone packages in Oakland County

Package thefts continue to be crime trend in Metro Detroit

TROY, Mich. – A New York man was arrested in Troy for allegedly posing as a FedEx worker to steal multiple iPhone packages.

Police said Jose Junior Rosario, 34, wore a FedEx jacket and hat, drove to a home in Troy on Oct. 24 and loitered in the area for several hours. An iPhone package was eventually delivered to the house. Rosario walked up to the porch, only to find the homeowner already picked up the package. However, the homeowner left a Mac Pro laptop to be returned on the porch. Rosario took the laptop and drove off.

Officers watched Rosario and eventually pulled him over. From there, police found 16 new iPhones and a brand-new iPad still in their boxes in the trunk of his car.

Rosario was arraigned on Oct. 5, 2024, in the 52-4 District Court on charges of five counts of Larceny from Mail and Driving While License Suspended. His bond was set at $150,000.

String of iPhone thefts in Metro Detroit

This isn’t new to the Troy Police Department, as they recently arrested a man who posed as an Amazon worker to steal iPhones in the city and other Metro Detroit areas. Yohangel Martin Polanco Melo, 23, was arrested on Oct. 13 and charged with two counts of Larceny.

Troy police said package thefts continue to be a crime trend in Metro Detroit.

On Oct. 21, a suspect was arrested after stealing iPhone packages from Utica, Southfield and Sterling Heights. Police said they saw the suspect steal a package at a Sterling Heights home, leading to their arrest.

On Oct. 22, A car allegedly involved in multiple iPhone package thefts went to West Bloomfield when they were stopped by multiple police departments. Four suspects were found in the car and were arrested. Police said five iPhones were found inside the car.
