WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – A man was arrested after robbing three businesses in Wayne County while wearing a skeleton and a clown mask.
An affidavit was submitted by the FBI to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on Oct. 27, detailing probable cause of the suspect’s arrest.

Robbery at Intimate Ideas
On Oct. 27, 2024, just before 1 a.m., a man wearing a partial skeleton mask robbed Intimate Ideas in Westland at gunpoint. The robber demanded the clerk to hand over money from the register. The robber put the gun back on his waistband and opened the cash register himself. He was able to take about $422 from the register before leaving the store.
Attempted robbery at McDonald’s
A man wearing a clown mask and green jacket attempted to rob a McDonald‘s in Westland on Oct. 27 just before 6:30 a.m. Authorities said he entered the store with a gun and demanded money from the register. The employees could not comply to the robber‘s demands as the register was closed. The robber attempted to open the register and the employees left the store. He wasn’t able to get any money and left the restaurant.
Robbery at Shell gas station
Shortly after trying to rob the McDonald’s, a man wearing a clown mask went into a Shell gas station in Garden City, pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money from the register.
The robber told the clerk, “You got 30 seconds before I start shooting.”
The clerk then gave the robber about $1,070.
The robber took the money and said, “Thank you,” before leaving the store.
Masked robber arrested
Garden City police was patrolling the area of the gas station and found a man sitting inside his car in front of an apartment complex near the gas station.
The man, Brendan Bonner, was not wearing a mask but was wearing a green jacket matching the video surveillance. He was taken out of the car and was arrested.
Inside Bonner’s car, police found the following items:
- A black, polymer P80, semiautomatic handgun,
- A clown mask
- Latex Gloves
Police also found money wrapped in a rubber band in his pocket.
Police also searched Bonner’s apartment and found a partial skeleton mask, clothing matching those won during the robber of Intimate Ideas and money.
Authorities spoke with a person who also lived in the apartment during the search. The person said Bonner took a skeleton mask and a gun he made using parts he ordered online. Bonner told the person that he was going to out to do a robber. When Bonner came back to the apartment, he told the person he robbed Intimate Ideas at gunpoint.
The person living in the apartment also told police Bonner cleaned the money for hours so the fingerprints would not be on it. Bonner told the person that he did not bring his phone to the robberies because he knew he could be tracked.
The second time Bonner left the apartment, the person told police he took a clown mask and the same handgun.
During an interview with police, Bonner admitted to robbing the three businesses. He was then taken into custody.
