Where Metro Detroit families can get free turkeys, Thanksgiving meals

Communities across Metro Detroit are giving out free turkeys and Thanksgiving meals to families in need.

The following list is of communities and organizations holding events and drives in 2024 so families can have a bountiful Thanksgiving dinner.

Wayne County

Taylor

Wayne County will host its annual Turkey Giveaway on Saturday, Nov. 23 at New Hope Assembly of God located at 14000 Racho Blvd in Taylor from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until supplies run out.

Turkeys will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis and are limited to one per vehicle.

River Rouge

The River Rough School District at 1460 W Coolidge Highway, in partnership with the Heart Work Is Hard Work Foundation, will be giving away 4,000 free turkeys and other dinner fixings to families in need on Nov. 25 beginning at 9 a.m.

Detroit

East side

On Nov. 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Capuchin Soup Kitchen at 6333 Medbury, with the help of the Midwest Independent Retailers Foundation, will be handing out turkeys to families in need.

Divine Restorations Ministries at 16392 Harper Avenue will be giving away turkeys for those in need on Nov. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of its third annual 1,000 Souls Fed Giving Back to the Community event.

Eastern Market

The Annual All-Start Giveback will be at Eastern Market Shed 5 on Nov. 26 at 11 a.m. to give away more than 3,000 turkeys to Metro Detroit families in need on a first-come, first-served basis.

Macomb County

Eastpointe

Boss Baby Early Learning Center at 23411 Gratiot Avenue, as part of the third annual 1,000 Souls Fed Giving Back to the Community event, will be giving away turkeys on Nov. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Oakland County

Troy

On Nov. 22 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., United Community Family Services at 2033 Austin Drive in Troy will be handing out turkeys to families in need with the help of the Midwest Independent Retailers Foundation.
