ALPENA, Mich. – A 40-year-old from Alpena is facing charges after reportedly using a borrowed truck as collateral to buy a dog.
Michigan State Police said someone reached out on Nov. 18 to report that their truck had been stolen. The Ford F-150 was allegedly loaned to Ronald Lorn Martz in June, who told the owner that the truck had been stolen after being asked to return it multiple times.

After the owner found their truck for sale online, the sellers reportedly told police that Martz had used it as collateral for a puppy they were selling. Martz allegedly failed to keep his end of the purchase agreement and the F-150 was being sold as a result.
The sellers said they did not know the truck was stolen.
Martz was charged Thursday, Nov. 21, with larceny by conversion greater than $1,000 but less than $20,000. He was given a $2,500 10% cash surety bond and is expected to return to court Dec. 17.
