Diverging diamond style interchange opens today in Metro Detroit

The changes impact the Telegraph Road/8 Mile Road intersection

Northbound and southbound Telegraph Road (US-24) at 8 Mile Road (M-102) is back open Monday morning, but it will look a little different than it used to.

Starting on Nov. 25 at 6 a.m., Telegraph Road now shifts left first and then shifts right under the 8 Mile Road bridge. This new design is to avoid left turns from Telegraph Rd. without encountering oncoming traffic.

Initially, only two lanes will be open for northbound and southbound Telegraph Road at 8 Mile Road.

In mid-December, traffic will open to four lanes in each direction.

This style of intersections already exists in the Metro Detroit area. The I-75/University Drive interchange in Auburn Hills is an example.
