DETROIT – Police are searching for a man accused of shooting a 2-year-old boy Tuesday night in Detroit’s east side.
The shooting happened on Tuesday, Nov. 26, just before 7 p.m. in the 553 block of Dickerson Avenue. Officials said the child was shot in the leg and was taken to a local hospital. He is expected to be okay.

When police arrived at the scene, they found at least 15 shell casings from an apparent domestic issue.
“The ex-boyfriend gets into a shootout with the new boyfriend, and in the exchange of gunfire, his child was shot,” said interim Detroit police Chief Todd Bettison.
Officials said they believe the bullet was a “through and through,” and the bullet passed through, leaving two holes possibly in the boy.
Who is the suspect?
Bettison said they are looking for Darius Lacey, born Oct. 2, 1997. The 27-year-old was with two people who fled with him in a black Dodge Charger.
“And so we’re actively looking for them. We have our air units up. We have other assets, and so we expect to have Mr. Lacy in custody shortly,” Bettison said. “And if anybody knows Mr. Lacy, please call 1-800-SPEAK-UP or call the Detroit Police Department.”
“It’s a black Charger. We don’t know the exact year of it because it doesn’t have the right plate on it,“ Bettison said.
Other suspects involved in shootout
Bettison said Lacey and his two companions were going into the house to move things out when they encountered the mother and the new boyfriend, and the alleged exchange ensued, leading to the exchange of gunfire and the child being hit.
The Detroit Police Department (DPD) said at 10 p.m. that the other party that was involved in the shooting had turned themselves in.
DPD is still looking for Lacey.
