Pedestrian killed in Monroe County after colliding with train while jogging

MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – A pedestrian has died after colliding with a train while jogging in Monroe County.

The incident occurred on Wednesday (Nov. 27) at 1:18 p.m. at the CSX Rail Line that crosses over Mall Road between Telegraph Road and N. Monroe Street in Frenchtown Township.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Robert K. Moore, 36, of Monroe, was jogging westbound on Mall Road, crossing over the CSX Rail Line, past the active crossing gates while they were down displaying red flashing warning lights.

When doing so, Moore approached the westside gate, turned around, and started to jog eastbound when he was struck by a southbound train.

After being hit, Moore came to rest between the southbound and northbound rail lines.

The train’s emergency brakes were activated, coming to a controlled stop.

Moore was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol is an unknown factor in the collision.

Lieutenant Brian Quinn, Deputy Sheriffs Alec Preadmore, and Nicholas Burkhart of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division are investigating the collision.
