NORTHVILLE, Mich. – Consumers Energy will be flaring natural gas in Wayne County Tuesday, during a scheduled procedure.
The flaring will happen at a south corner of the Northville Compressor Station at 9440 Napier Road, south of Eight Mile Road.
It was scheduled to begin between 8 and 10 a.m. and is expected to last until sometime between 2 and 4 p.m.
The purpose of the flaring is to manage natural gas while crews carry out upgrades.
Consumers Energy officials say people in the area will smell natural gas and see tall flames while the flaring is being done. They could also hear “a loud, jet engine sound.”
Northville officials also alerted residents of the scheduled gas flaring in a Facebook post on Tuesday morning, alerting residents, business owners and any other visitors to avoid going near the site during this time for safety purposes.
