A new chapter: Ty Steele joins WDIV as Metro Detroit’s newest Evening Anchor

Ty Steele, WDIV Local 4 Evening Anchor (WDIV)

As someone who has always loved storytelling, I’m thrilled to begin this exciting new chapter as an evening anchor at WDIV, Local 4. Storytelling has been a passion of mine since childhood, and now, I have the incredible opportunity to share the stories of Metro Detroit.

Growing up in Olympia, Washington, I discovered my love for connecting with people through stories early on. My first job as a paperboy in the third grade taught me the importance of delivering information, and that spark eventually led me to the University of Washington in Seattle, where I earned my journalism degree. From there, I launched my TV news career in Eugene, Oregon, as a multimedia journalist. It was a whirlwind start that led to my promotion as a weekend anchor—a moment that cemented my passion for this field.

Most recently, I spent 10 years as an anchor in Sacramento, California, winning 5 regional Emmy awards for breaking news, best newscasts and as anchor of the year.

Now, Metro Detroit is my home, and I couldn’t be more excited! As a journalist, I’ve always believed in the power of local news to build connections and inspire positive change. Metro Detroit’s rich history and vibrant culture present endless opportunities to tell stories that matter. And there couldn’t be a better time to be moving to the Motor City! Go Lions!

On a personal note, I’m equally thrilled to bring my family to this incredible part of the country. My wife, Stephanie, who I’ve known since seventh grade (yes, we’re middle school sweethearts!), and our four amazing daughters—ages 4, 6, 8, and 10—are eager to embrace everything Michigan has to offer.

Outside of the newsroom, you’ll probably find me lifting weights, exploring new outdoor and indoor adventures, and hanging out with my family and friends. Don’t be shy if you see me around town; I love to meet our loyal viewers and am looking forward to getting to know you and plant deep roots in this community.

To my new neighbors, I’m honored to become a part of this hard-working and loyal community. Thank you for welcoming me and my family with open arms—I can’t wait to share this journey with you.

Here’s to new beginnings, new stories, and a city that already feels like home! Catch me on Local 4 Monday through Friday at 5, 6 and 11 p.m. with my co-anchors Kimberly Gill, Kim Adams and Hobie Artigue.
