Woman arrested in Oakland County break-in might be linked to transnational gangs

3 thieves remain at large

NOVI, Mich. – Police in Novi have arrested a woman they believe is connected to a string of high-end burglaries across Metro Detroit.

According to authorities, a homeowner called 911 on Monday, Dec. 2, after he saw people trying to break into his home on his surveillance system. Police were already patrolling the area and were able to find a suspicious vehicle leaving the scene.

Police said they tried a traffic stop, but the van took off. After a short chase, the van reportedly stopped and four people ran off.

An officer arrested a woman, but the other three suspects remain at large.

The woman was identified as 21-year-old Vania Herra Valdes, a Chilean national who reportedly was in the country illegally.

Valdes was charged Wednesday, Dec. 4, with second-degree home invasion and resisting and obstructing. Her bond was set at $100,000.
