Longtime Detroit food company makes generous donation to Forgotten Harvest

Staffers were busy unloading hundreds of cases of donated meats

DETROIT – Workers at Forgotten Harvest are excited about a significant donation that they say could help meet the immediate grocery needs of thousands of families across Metro Detroit.

is. The donations are protein items Forgotten Harvest staff said families could definitely use.

“We struggle with protein here,” said Annmarie Zaremba, Director of Food Sourcing at Forgotten Harvest. “Protein is one of the things that’s hardest for us to source.”

E.W. Grobbel donated and delivered more than 7,000 units of protein to Forgotten Harvest. The family-based food company regularly donates a variety of meat to organizations across the community, including Forgotten Harvest.

“Protein is an item that there’s just not a lot of big, large distributors in our area where we can tap into for donations,” Zaremba said. “So, we do struggle with protein.”

Staffers were busy unloading packages of corned beef, beef brisket, and other meats. Meat is an important component of a diet. Forgotten Harvest staff said protein is typically the most expensive.

“As everybody knows, when they go to the grocery store, prices are just increasing,” Zaremba said. “So, that’s something that people sometimes forego because it’s so costly.”

That’s why the team at the food pantry said donations like the one from E.W. Grobbel are so important.

“Our entire team is proud and passionate about helping share all of the good things they do for folks who are needy in the community,” said Jason Grobbel, CEO of E.W. Grobbel. “It’s a group effort among our 400 employees. We know how important Forgotten Harvest is.”

Forgotten Harvest distributes food to over 250 partner agencies. The meat donations will be divided between those groups and distributed across the community.
