Farmington Hills city manager names interim police chief

Farmington Hills police chief to retire on Dec. 16

John Piggott (Farmington Hills)

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – An interim police chief has been named in Farmington Hills just days before the current chief is set to retire.

Farmington Hills city manager Gary Mekjian named current assistant police chief John Piggott as interim police chief. Piggott will begin working on Monday, Dec. 16, when police chief Jeff King retires.

“I am grateful that John has agreed to step into the role during this time of transition,” Mekjian said. “He is an experienced law enforcement leader who is respected among his peers, and I’m confident that he will uphold the Department’s high standards while we take time to consider who will lead the Department in the future.”

Piggott was hired as a police cadet in 1996. Officials said he has experience in administration, investigations, operations and traffic safety, and worked as a school liaison officer before being promoted to assistant chief in July 2021.

The city is asking for qualified candidates to apply. The job listing can be found at fhgov.com/employment.
