MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A Westland man was found guilty in connection to a chain-reaction crash that killed two women in June.

A Macomb County jury convicted Jose Eugeno Medina-Hernandez, 33, of two counts of moving violation causing death, one-year misdemeanors, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.

On Thursday, June 6, Medina-Hernandez was driving a box truck on M-53 in Shelby Township when he rear-ended a Buick Verano. This triggered a chain reaction involving two other vehicles.

The two occupants of the Buick, 88-year-old Nancy Richmond, and 63-year-old Crystal Brunn, were killed in the crash.

“Thank you to the Macomb County jury who delivered justice for the families who lost their loved ones in this tragic and preventable crash,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. “Our hearts remain with the victims’ families as they continue to heal from this devastating loss.”

The multiple-vehicle crash caused the southbound lanes of M-53 between 21 Mile and 22 Mile roads to close for about five hours.
