Lions' David Montgomery gives injury update while supporting Detroit youth community coat drive

Montgomery seems to be in good spirits during the charitable.

DETROITDetroit Lions running back David Montgomery gave an update on his injury during his partnership with The Yunion, a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering and uplifting youth while teaming up for a community coat drive.

The event was held on Tuesday (Dec. 17) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Detroit Police Athletic League (PAL) facility, which is located in the 1680 block of Michigan Avenue.

During the event, Montgomery said he would be cheering from the sidelines for the Lions' remaining three games.

“We’re still trying to figure things out and trying to figure out what’s the best way and the smartest way to go about it,” said Montgomery. “We got guys that when people go down that you can rely on as they’re very reliable, so, this sucks, and it’s very unfortunate that I happened to be one of the guys that is down, but we got more than enough firepower to get the job done. I’ll be cheering from the sidelines.”

Montgomery had nothing holding him up during the press conference, but he seemed to be in good spirits while partnering with the nonprofit for the coat drive.

The drive sought new coats for all ages and sizes, benefiting families and individuals served by The Yunion and other Metro Detroit organizations, including COTS, Covenant House Michigan, Focus: HOPE, and PAL.

Volunteers will sort and distribute the donations to those organizations at a later date, ensuring they reach those most in need this winter.

The Yunion is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth and building strong communities.

Since 2002, it has impacted over 17,000 young lives through prevention programs, mentoring, family engagement, and creative expression.

Founded by best-selling author Jason Wilson, The Yunion’s acclaimed CATTA initiative, supporting young boys’ growth, was featured in an award-winning ESPN Film documentary at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival.
