Sterling Heights police officer gives out gift cards instead of tickets

Utica Van Dyke Towing donates $1,000

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – A police officer in Sterling Heights had fun making traffic stops -- he wasn’t handing out tickets, but was spreading holiday cheer.

Officer Talia was initiating real traffic stops for real reasons and giving out $50 gift cards he paid for out of his own pocket.

He said he wanted to do more than just serve and protect his community.

Rocco and Joseph Arapovic of Utica Van Dyke Towing heard what Talia was doing and decided to help out and contributed $1,000 to the cause.

“It’s so nice to help people in Sterling Heights,” Rocco Arapovic said.

“He said, ‘Let’s get in on this,‘” Joseph Arapovic said. “‘Let’s pitch in another $1,000 to help out and help people in need.‘”
