What we know about last night’s emergency situation at U of M campus building

Here’s what we know about the emergency situation Wednesday night at a University of Michigan campus building.

The situation happened on the northernmost edge of the university’s North Campus.

Police were called to the parking lot between the North Campus Research Complex and the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute.

That’s in the area of the 2800 block of Plymouth Road, at Huron Parkway.

Busy Macomb County intersection raises safety concerns

A concerned mother living in Chesterfield Township is highlighting the dangers at an intersection near her home.

You’ve likely driven through 21 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue.

Felicia Comeaux reached out to Local 4 about the intersection saying that she’s witnessed more crashes there than anywhere else.

Comeaux is an army veteran with three children -- ages 7, 12 and 15. She said just leaving the driveway is concerning. Her street, Briarfield Road, is often used as a cut-through for drivers who want to avoid the 21 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue intersection.

What to know about bird flu after CDC reports first severe illness

The CDC has confirmed the first severe illness in the U.S. caused by bird flu.

Bird flu, also known as Type A H5N1 influenza, is widespread in wild birds and causing outbreaks in poultry and U.S. dairy cows. There have been several human cases but the CDC said the current risk to public health is low.

The first severe illness caused by bird flu in the U.S. occurred in a person in Louisiana. The patient had been in contact with sick and dead birds in backyard flocks, according to the CDC.
