Holiday travel will be tricky for Metro Detroiters beginning Monday afternoon as a wintry mix or even snow is expected to pass through Southeast Michigan.
A Winter Weather Advisory was issued for most of Southeastern Michigan from 12:00 p.m. Monday until 1:00 a.m. Tuesday (10:00 p.m. Monday in our M-59 Corridor Counties) for a wintry mixed precipitation and accumulating snow depending on where you are across the region.
Monday morning/afternoon
Cloudy skies; wintry mix and snow developing late morning and into the afternoon. Snow accumulation possible along with sleet and some freezing rain in other areas as temperatures warm. Areas closer to the state line may see a brief changeover to rain before changing back to wintry weather as temperatures drop. High: 35; temperatures remaining near the freezing mark in our northern communities. Winds: South 5-15 MPH with gusts as high as 20 MPH.

Wintry mix and snow ending near or shortly after midnight. Low: 32.
Where snow, wintry mix will impact
ALONG & NORTH OF M-59: These areas should stay primarily snow for this evening, with the exception of a little sleet/mix possible near M-59 this afternoon/evening. These areas could see 2 to 4 inches of snow with areas up near Saginaw and into the thumb potentially seeing 3 to 5 inches of snow.
ALONG & SOUTH OF M-59 to I-696/I-94 CORRIDOR: These areas could start off as snow before changing to a wintry mix of snow, sleet and potentially some freezing rain. Areas from M-59 to I-696 could see 1 to 2 inches of snow, then changing over to some sleet and freezing rain where there could be pockets of sleet and ice accumulation in some areas.
SOUTH OF I-94 CORRIDOR: These areas will start off as snow, then quickly change over to a wintry mix, then areas in Eastern Wayne County and portions of Monroe County may see a changeover to rain for a period of time before changing back over to the wintry mix and then snow as this system moves out of the region. An inch or less of snow is expected with a light accumulation of sleet and freezing rain possible.
The wintry mix and snow will wind down it here or after midnight tonight, and we will keep the cloud cover into the forecast overnight tonight. Overnight lows, remaining around the freezing mark and early on Tuesday morning.
