Troopers were told a 38-year-old man from Jackson was reported missing on Dec. 19, 2024, by his family and the vehicle may be his since his phone was last showing in that area.

Police initially searched the area where the missing man’s phone location was last shown but could not find him.

On Dec. 22, an officer noticed an antenna sticking out of the ice of the retention pond. The Washtenaw County Five Team went into the water with a chain and cut large chunks of ice to get to the truck and retrieve the body. Once the body was recovered, the truck was taken out of the water.

The Washtenaw County Medical Examiner was at the scene and confirmed the body was the 38-year-old man reported missing on Dec. 19.

Police believe the man became disoriented and drove into the frozen pond. It’s unclear if alcohol or drugs were a factor.

The investigation is ongoing.
