Suspect arrested after killing bicyclist in Livingston County, police say

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Mich. – A 63-year-old man was taken into custody after allegedly hitting and killing a bicyclist in Livingston County, state police said.

At 1:40 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 23, troopers responded to southbound Old US-23 Highway near Bergin Road in Hartland Township after receiving a report of a hit-and-run involving a bicycle.

Police learned that a 22-year-old Howell man was riding his bike southbound on Old US-23 as he was heading home from his night shift job when he was struck and killed.

The driver left the scene, and a passerby reported the crash.

Authorities determined the suspect vehicle was a white 2013 Ford F-150 with the parts left at the scene. They located the suspect within two hours.

The suspect, a 63-year-old Brighton man, was taken into custody.

It is unknown at this time if drugs and alcohol were a factor in the crash, according to state police.

The investigation is ongoing.
