Monroe County deputy sheriff shoots, kills person during investigation of ‘suspicious suspect’

EXETER TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Monroe County deputy sheriff shot and killed a person while investigating a report of a “suspicious subject,” according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said that at 10:56 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024, a deputy sheriff was sent to the 9000 block of Hoffman Road in London Township for reports of a “suspicious subject.”

While investigating that report, a second call was made from at 11:30 a.m. from the 6300 block of Bluebush Road in Exeter Township regarding a suspicious subject matching that description of the subject from Hoffman Road.

The deputy sheriff went to the Bluebush Road location and found the subject, who officials said “immediately engaged and began physically assaulting the deputy sheriff.” The deputy sheriff shot the person, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deputy sheriff was transported to an area hospital and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting is under investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office who were contacted to conduct an independent review.

The sheriff’s office said a potential witness may have left the scene as more officers were arriving. Anyone who witnessed the shooting and assault is asked to call Monroe County Central Dispatch at 734-243-7070.
