Dearborn man dies after losing control of bicycle, crashes into utility pole

DEARBORN, Mich. – A Dearborn man died on New Year’s Eve after losing control of his bicycle and crashing into a utility pole.

The incident happened at Schaefer Road and Colson Street around 11 a.m. on Dec. 31, 2024.

Police said the 40-year-old Dearborn man was riding his electric bicycle without a helmet or protective equipment when he lost control and struck a utility pole. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The man’s identification is being withheld pending notification to his family, said authorities. Police are working with the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine his cause of death.
