DETROIT – Michigan State Police are urging drivers to slow down after a large spike in preventable crashes.
According to authorities, there were 64 preventable crashes across Metro Detroit between midnight and noon Monday, Jan. 6. Police said most of them were caused by people driving too fast or too close to the vehicle in front of them.

It can take up to 10 times longer to stop on winter roads.
With cold, misty weather continuing throughout the week, police are urging people to slow down, leave room between vehicles to give more time to react to changing conditions, drive with two hands on the steering wheel and to always wear a seatbelt.
