ANN ARBOR, Mich. – A 24-year-old University of Michigan student was knocked unconscious when he was hit by a car on Wednesday, police said.

At 11:25 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8, officers and fire officials responded to N. University Avenue near S. Thayer Street after receiving a report of a crash involving a pedestrian.

A preliminary investigation showed that a 24-year-old University of Michigan student was at a mid-block crosswalk when he was struck by a car traveling westbound on N. University.

The pedestrian was unconscious when police arrived. He was taken to a local hospital where he is in serious but stable condition.

The driver, identified as a 72-year-old Ypsilanti woman, stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. She was also taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Speed and reckless driving don’t appear to be factors in the crash, and drug and alcohol use is still under investigation, according to police.
