Search intensifies for body of Ashley Elkins as officials scour Macomb County landfill

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – It’s been nearly two weeks since anyone last saw Ashley Elkins.

For the third day in a row, authorities are searching the Pine Tree Acres Landfill in Macomb County.

On day one of the operation, the Roseville police chief told Local 4 the search was moving in the right direction despite challenges.

As the search lingers, her ex-boyfriend remains behind bars related to the mother’s disappearance.

On Wednesday, Sky 4 showed searchers moving in a linear formation with bulldozers being used.

From dawn to dusk, more than a dozen law enforcement agencies carefully comb this six-and-a-half-acre parcel.

More than 50 officers suit up in dangerous cold conditions as they navigate waste piles.

Elkins’ family is grateful for the grueling work.

“They don’t have to do that, right? But they’re all out there working hard to find Ashley and to bring closure to the family,” said Maurice Morton, a family spokesperson.

It provides assurance and comfort, he said.

In nearly 14 days, the high-profile case has led investigators to search the home belonging to Deandre Booker, her ex-boyfriend.

The mother’s phone last pinged at his place.

Police recovered Elkins’ car not far from Booker’s apartment.

Authorities later found the 32-year-old man in Flint where prosecutors believe he planned to leave town for good based on evidence.

Still, no signs of the 30-year-old Warren woman.

“We’re just anxious. We want closure,” Morton said. “So, we’d rather sooner rather than something later.”
