Everything we know about week-long search for Ashley Elkins at Macomb County landfill

Search at Lenox Township landfill reaches fifth day

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – The search for Ashley Elkins at a Macomb County landfill reached its fifth day on Friday.

At this point, it’s not clear if the search at the Pine Tree Acres Landfill in Lenox Township will end Friday (Jan. 17) or continue.

Police recovered what they call “lookalike items” on Wednesday that could belong to Ashley, although lab testing is necessary to verify if it is evidence in this case.

On Friday, Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido told Local 4’s Shawn Ley that they are still waiting on the results of those tests.

Authorities have been searching for any answers in the disappearance of the 30-year-old missing Warren mother of two, who was last seen on Jan. 2, 2025.

Elkins' ex-boyfriend, Deandre Booker, 32, of Roseville, was arrested on Jan. 8, 2025, for allegedly lying to police during their investigation into the disappearance.

Authorities started searching the Pine Tree Acres Landfill in Lenox Township on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025.

Background

Ashley Elkins was last seen at her Warren home at 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 2, 2025.

Her cellphone showed that her last known location was at Booker’s apartment in the 20900 block of Pinehurst Street in Roseville.

On Tuesday, Jan. 7, authorities found Elkins' car a few miles from Booker’s apartment, and they searched his apartment.

He was taken into custody in Flint on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025. His search history was revealed in court and showed that he was looking up information like what to do on the run, if blood is traceable and more.

Police said while searching a dumpster at Booker’s apartment, they found evidence that indicated Elkins was killed and led them to the Lenox Township landfill.

This landfill is the same one that was searched in 2022 for the body of Zion Foster, who went missing from her Eastpointe home. Her body was never found, but her cousin was sentenced to several decades in prison after he admitted to throwing her body in a dumpster.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help Ashley Elkins' family. You can donate here.
