MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – One person was killed and another was injured in a three-vehicle crash in Monroe County, police said.

At 12:05 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, troopers responded to southbound I-75 near Gaynier Road in Erie Township after receiving a report about a crash involving two passenger cars and a semi-truck.

When they arrived, they found a 2023 Hyundai Kona against the median barrier.

The driver, a 56-year-old Detroit woman, was unresponsive. Authorities pulled her from the car and life-saving efforts were administered.

The passenger in the Hyundai, a 43-year-old Detroit man, sustained minor injuries in the crash.

They were both taken to the hospital, where the driver was pronounced dead.

State police say the driver of the Hyundai was heading southbound on I-75 and ran into the back of a semi-truck. Due to the impact, the Hyundai driver lost control, and crashed into a 2023 Chrysler Pacifica that was being driven by a 33-year-old Warren man, who had three passengers in the car with him.

After that, the Hyundai crashed into the median wall.

The occupants of the Chrysler and the semi-truck were not injured in the crash.

Authorities say alcohol appears to be a factor. The investigation is ongoing.
