Prosecutor: Detroit man bit off part of woman’s ear while physically and sexually assaulting her

Man also accused of assaulting woman’s children

Jacob Macklis, 23 (Oakland County Jail)

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A Detroit man is facing multiple charges for allegedly physically and sexually assaulting a woman at a motel in Royal Oak Township.

The investigation began when police responded to the American Inn motel in Royal Oak Township on Jan. 18, 2025, for reports of a woman and children screaming for help.

When police arrived, they found Jacob Macklis, 23, holding a 35-year-old woman by her hair. He then allegedly punched the woman in the face in front of them before he was arrested.

After further investigation, police learned Macklis allegedly physically and sexually assaulted the woman, including biting off part of her ear, as well as physically assaulting her two young children.

“The level of violence in this case is shocking,” said Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. “My heart goes out to this woman and her children for what they had to endure. My office will pursue the maximum charges against this defendant because his victims deserve justice.”

The 23-year-old was charged with First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, Assault with Intent to Maim, Assault by Strangulation, Felonious Assault, and two counts of Child Abuse and Domestic Violence.
