The good news is that we are waking up to temperatures 20 degrees warmer than Wednesday. The bad news is that overnight and early morning snowfall, up to an inch or two, is slowing down traffic.
Tips to help prevent pipes from freezing in the winter
Extreme cold temperatures can cause pipes to freeze, crack, or burst.
The Michigan Committee for Severe Weather Awareness estimates that a quarter-million homes are damaged each winter because of frozen water pipes. According to the state of Michigan, an eighth-inch crack in a pipe can be enough to leak up to 250 gallons of water a day. Plastic (PVC) and copper pipes can burst.
Multiple crashes cause freeway closures across Wayne, Oakland counties
Several crashes across Wayne and Oakland counties are causing freeways to shut down.
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) reported several crashes along I-75, M-39 and I-94. Some crashes caused some shoulder lanes to close; others caused the freeways to shut down completely.
Michigan high school students donate $85K to cancer center
Students at a high school in Southeast Michigan donated $85,000 to a local hospital that will support cancer care for patients.
Brighton High School students donated the money to the Warren R. and Lauraine A. Hoensheid Cancer Center, which is located inside Trinity Health Medical Center - Brighton.
