Tax season begins Monday: How to file taxes online for free if you made $84K or less

There are programs available to help people who made $84K or less last year file their federal taxes for free.

If your adjusted gross income (AGI) was $84,000 or less, you can use one of the Free File IRS partner offers to file a free federal tax return. Some of the programs offer free state returns too.

The IRS has a Free File Online Lookup Tool that can help you find an offer that you qualify for. The IRS starts accepting and processing individual tax returns on Jan. 27, 2025.

Auschwitz memorial holds observances on the 80th anniversary of the death camp’s liberation

The 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz by Soviet troops is being marked on Monday at the site of the former death camp, a ceremony that is widely being treated as the last major observance that any notable number of survivors will be able to attend.

Among those who was traveled to the site is 86-year-old Tova Friedman, who was 6 when she was among the 7,000 people liberated on Jan. 27, 1945. She believes it will the be last gathering of survivors at Auschwitz and she came from her home in New Jersey to add her voice to those warning about rising hatred and antisemitism.

Apartment fire in St. Clair County displaces dozens

Dozens of people are displaced after an early morning fire ripped through an apartment building in East China Township.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. In the meantime, the people displaced are going to have to start over.

Detroit police want help finding missing 15-year-old girl

Police are seeking information about a 15-year-old girl who went missing in Detroit.

Destanie Pace left her residence on Friday (Jan. 24) in the 800 block of E. Grand Blvd without permission and failed to return home.

Weather: Wind advisory issued for Metro Detroit on Monday, gusts up to 50 mph possible

We are tracking “winds of change.” Coming off an arctic blast last week, we will spend most of this week with highs inching slightly above average.

A Wind Advisory goes into effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today. Southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 to 50 mph are expected. Highs will bein the mid to upper 30s, but feeling 10-15 degrees cooler with the wind chill.
