In the 145 years of data collection, average global temperatures ranked highest this past year averaging 2.77°F above the baseline.

It was also reported that of the 243 U.S. cities analyzed by Climate Central, 31% had their hottest year in 2024.

Detroit was one of those cities. In addition to the extreme temperatures, this past year was 5% drier than normal.

The overall climate is warming up across all four seasons, but at different rates across the U.S. In Detroit, winter was the fasting warming season.

Overall. global analysis from the World Weather Attribution and Climate Central found that there were 41 more days of dangerous heat on average in 2024.

Weather and climate disasters are becoming more frequent and intense, in 2024 alone the U.S. experienced 27 billion dollars in damage.

During the extreme weather events, thousands of people died and millions were displaced.
