Teen charged after leading Garden City police on high-speed chase in stolen vehicle

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a 17-year-old boy in Detroit in connection with fleeing from Garden City police officers.

On Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025, around 1:55 a.m., Garden City police officers were in the area of Ford Road and Venoy Road when they observed the teen in a stolen vehicle.

When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the teen allegedly fled from them at a high rate of speed.

During the pursuit, the 17-year-old allegedly attempted to strike the officer’s vehicle with the stolen vehicle.

The pursuit ended at the intersection of Bluehill Street and Denver Street in Detroit, and officers apprehended the teen.

The teen has been charged with fleeing – third-degree, receiving and concealing a motor vehicle, reckless driving, and operating with no license.

The preliminary hearing was held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in the Lincoln Hall of Justice.

The 17-year-old received a $5,000 cash/surety bond. As a condition of the bond, he will have a tether, not drive motor vehicles, and not use illegal drugs.

His next court date is Feb. 18, 2025, at 10:30 a.m.
