BERLIN CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Monroe County officials are warning residents after a man has allegedly been posing as a water department employee to get inside homes.

Officials in Berlin Charter Township say a man who is about 50 years old has been knocking on doors telling residents he needs to test the water.

The man entered the homes and then let two more men inside. Once inside, they would distract the residents and ransack the homes.

This has happened twice in the last few weeks, according to Berlin Charter Township Supervisor Mary Jo Gedelian.

Officials say actual Berlin Township Water Department employees will have a scheduled appointment, a marked work truck and a badge.

Anyone with questions or concerns can call the water department at 734-586-2187.

Residents are also urged to call 911 or contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at 734-243-7070 if anyone knocks on their door without an appointment.
