Hazmat situation cleared at Faygo plant on Detroit’s east side

DETROIT – The hazmat situation at the Faygo plant on Detroit’s east side has been cleared.

Officials said the situation was curtailed at 7:52 p.m., and the Detroit Fire Department cleared the scene in the 3500 block of Gratiot Avenue just before 8 p.m. on Monday (Feb. 3).

Officials said the hazmat situation occurred due to a minor nitrogen leak.

If inhaled, nitrogen can cause shortness of breath, pulmonary edema, and even death.

There were no injuries reported.
