‘Please don’t hurt my child’: Father describes ordeal after son dies in Detroit home invasion

Incident left father badly injured

DETROIT – A heartbroken father shared his harrowing experience with Local 4 after robbers shot and killed his son during a home invasion on Detroit’s west side.

The incident left him badly injured.

The robbery and homicide occurred on Thursday, (Feb. 6), at a home in the 18900 block of Sorrento Avenue, near the corner of 7 Mile Road and W Outer Drive, around 9 p.m.

The father, who wished to remain anonymous to avoid being targeted again, bravely recounted the ordeal.

“As soon as he comes in, I’m looking, and here these guys come in with guns pointed to my face telling me to, ‘Get down,’ before they tripped me and knocked me down,” he said.

During the interview, the father was visibly shaken and still covered in blood.

He revealed that the robbers pistol-whipped him and shot his 19-year-old son.

Despite their demands for drugs, money, and jewelry, he had none of those items in his home.

Police provided the 911 call from Thursday night, reporting that four men dressed in all black were seen fleeing the scene.

The incident has left the neighborhood in shock.

“I heard one shot, ‘Bam,’” the father recounted. “I asked the robbers not to hurt my son. I said, ‘Please don’t hurt my child.’”

Authorities are investigating the case and may have video footage that could aid in identifying the suspects.
