A small-town bar in Monroe County makes an appearance in Budweiser’s Super Bowl commercial.
However, the bar and town knew nothing about it until an eagle-eyed patron recognized the familiar spot while watching the commercial online.
“One of my customers messaged me and said, ‘I’m on the Bud app and they put out a new commercial and the Hotel (Bar) is in it’, and I’m like no it’s not,” Carleton Hotel Bar owner John Kaczmarek said.
The three second clip shows an aerial view of the Carleton Hotel Bar on Monroe Street in Carleton.
Kaczmarek believes Budweiser purchased the footage from an online video library called Shutterstock.
“They just picked the video from thousands they could have done,” he said.
From looking at the video, Kaczmarek believes someone must have shot that video with a drone last summer.
“We always hear bad news (and) it’s good news for once,” he said. “What are the odds you’re going to be on a Super Bowl commercial?”
Patrons are thrilled and the buzz of it all is bringing in new faces to the bar.
“I’m a regular and I’m starting to lose my seat at the bar,” one patron told Local 4.
Another patron, Betsy Bender, was so excited she got a custom cake made to commemorate the moment.
“We were so surprised because we’ve been coming here for years”, she said.
