DETROIT – Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan announced his pick for the city’s next police chief.
He selected Todd Bettison, who has been serving as the city’s interim police chief since former chief James White decided to step down from the position to lead the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network.
Bettison was appointed as interim chief on Friday, Oct. 25, and has been with the Detroit Police Department for the past 27 years.
This comes after a search ensued to find the best candidate.
Under the city charter, the Detroit Board of Police Commissioners was responsible for conducting the search and compiling a list of candidates. The finalists were narrowed down to Bettison, Joel Fitzgerald and Joshua Wallace.
