Howell High School students Raise $13K for Special Olympics at Polar Plunge

Over 160 students jumped into a tank of freezing cold water to support

HOWELL, Mich. – On Wednesday, students at Howell High School raised more than $13,000 through their Polar Plunge fundraiser.

More than 160 students jumped into a tank of freezing cold water to support the Special Olympics Unified Sports Program.

It allows students with intellectual disabilities to train and compete in sports, including basketball, soccer, and archery.

“We have a wide variety of students with different levels in general Ed and Special Ed. Generally, bringing that community piece together and allowing students to grow those relationships and break boundaries and be upstanding, well rounded citizens is the biggest goal of it.”

said Howell High School Special/Physical Education teacher Lauren Schmalz
