One mother told Local 4 she desperately needed help rescuing her 13-year-old son from a home rescue crews hadn’t yet made their way to.
He was rescued shortly after by a team with a boat.
Families are grabbing anything they can from their water-damaged homes.
“They said it’s going to freeze tonight in the basement,” said Nathan Muscat. “And with the water all the way to the ceiling in the basement, it’s going to be rough trying to get everything out of there.”
Heavy trucks were used to break the ice on the roads, followed by emergency crews driving through the roads covered by waist-deep water.
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan announced displaced families will have access to hotel rooms until utilities have been restored.
