DETROIT – DJ Carl Cox won’t be performing at Movement this year anymore, but organizers already announced a new headliner.

Paxahau, the organizers of Detroit’s Movement Music Festival previously announced that Cox would headline the event on Sunday, May 25, and perform his acclaimed Hybrid Live Set.

But on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025, Cox announced in an Instagram Story post that his set would be postponed until next year.

“Hey everyone, I regret to inform you that due to scheduling complications, my show at Movement has been postponed until 2026,” Cox said in the statement. “I’m sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but I promise to make it worth the wait. When I return, I’ll bring my full live show experience, and it’s going to be epic. Thank you for your understanding and continued support. See you all in 2026 for an unforgettable show!”

Shortly after that update, Movement organizers announced that techno pioneer Jeff Mills would headline the first day of the festival this year.

“To be able to play in Detroit is and has always been a special kind of magic,” Mills told Movement organizers. “It’s one of the few places in the World where anything could happen because of a higher premium of music “sense” most people have. And it’s constantly being handed down from one generation to the next. Detroit is the place that understands the power of music and the value of a soulful and moving experience."

The annual festival will take place in Hart Plaza over Memorial Day Weekend, May 24-26.
