A Wayne County man purchased a scratch-off lottery ticket on the day of the Lions’ playoff loss to the Commanders, but he said winning a $500,000 prize helped take “some of the sting away.”

“I bought this VIP Cashword ticket on the day of the Lions’ playoff game,” the lucky player told Michigan Lottery officials. “Of course, everyone knows how the Lions game went but scanning the ticket and seeing I won $500,000 took some of the sting away!

The player, who decided to stay anonymous, bought the winning ticket at the Marathon gas station at 22063 Ryan Road in Warren.

“It still doesn’t feel real that I won, but I am very excited to be able to help family and then tuck some money away for myself,” said the player.

Each $5 ticket gives people the chance to win prizes from $10 up to $500,000.
