A Michigan man was sentenced to four to 20 years in prison for embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from his father’s trust, officials announced.
An Oakland County jury found David White, 68, of Union City guilty of embezzling in November 2024.
According to Attorney General Dana Nessel, he was found guilty of the following charges:
- one count of conducting a criminal enterprise
- two counts of embezzlement by an agent/trustee of $50,000 or more, but less than $100,000
- one count of embezzlement by an agent/trustee of $1,000 or more, but less than $20,000
- six counts of failure to file taxes
White allegedly became the co-trustee of the John Stirling White Trust in 2014 when his father died.
His father had several adult children, but the assets in his trust weren’t distributed to any of the beneficiaries due to ongoing litigation, according to a release from Nessel’s office. White had control of the income, expenses and financial records of his father’s trust.
The probate court removed White as a trustee in 2019 after he wouldn’t provide accounting records for the trust.
This prompted Nessel’s office to investigate and officials learned that White embezzled at least $400,000 from his father’s trust between 2014 and 2019.
A restitution hearing is scheduled for May 9, 2025.
