MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – Speed and icy road conditions played a role in a Monroe County crash that left two people injured over the weekend, the sheriff’s office said.

The crash happened at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, on Sylvania Petersburg Road, south of Bibb Road, in Whiteford Township.

A 33-year-old Ottawa Lake man was driving a black 2006 Saturn Vue northbound on Sylvania Petersburg Road when he traveled over an icy patch and lost control of his car.

“The Saturn then entered the eastside ditch line traveling in a northeast direction, striking two trees while rotating 360 degrees, and crashed into a utility pole coming to rest on residential property,” Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough said.

The driver wasn’t injured, but his front-seat passenger, a 28-year-old Lambertville woman, and his rear-seat passenger, a 39-year-old Toledo, Ohio man, were taken to a hospital in Toledo to be treated for their injuries.

The woman was listed in stable condition, and the man was in critical but stable condition.

Speeding was a factor in the crash, according to the sheriff.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 734-240-7548 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP to leave an anonymous tip.
