Police said a 58-year-old female driver of a Ford Crown Vic, with one passenger, struck a Chevy Traverse, which had three occupants, forcing the Chevy into a Kia Telluride with four occupants. The Kia then hit a Jeep Wrangler, which had one occupant.
The at-fault driver did not brake prior to the crash, police said.
A 50-year-old man from Novi, who was a passenger in the Ford, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release.
A 56-year-old woman from Farmington Hills, a passenger in the Kia, was also pronounced dead at the scene, the release said.
Police reported that several others suffered minor injuries.
The accident shut down a stretch of I-75 near the accident scene for several hours.
Police plan to submit the investigators' report to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
“It is important for all drivers to remember that every time they get behind the wheel, they are not only responsible for themselves and their passengers, but also for others that they share the road with,” stated First Lt. Mike Shaw in the release. “Driving requires all of our attention, all of the time. Driving conditions can change in a split second, and if drivers are not paying attention, it can be deadly.”
