Chain reaction crash on I-75 near Mack Avenue kills 2 -- What we know

Many others suffering minor injuries

DETROIT – Two people are dead after a multi-car crash on I-75 Sunday afternoon.

The crash happened just after 3 p.m. on Feb. 23, 2025, on southbound I-75 near Mack Ave.

Michigan State Police said a 58-year-old woman was driving her Ford Crown Vic with another passenger, a 50-year-old man from Novi, on the left lane on the freeway and struck a Chevy Traverse, which had three passengers inside, that was slowing down or stopping for traffic, forcing the Traverse into a Kia Telluride, which had four passengers inside. The Kia also crashed into a Jeep Wrangler—the driver was the only person in the Jeep.

Police believe the at-fault driver did not brake before the crash.

The 50-year-old man from Novi died at the scene.

A 56-year-old woman from Farmington Hills, a passenger in the Kia, also died at the scene.

Other passengers suffered minor injuries.
